Join creative midwife Chris Wells and get to the core of your project and process in this intensive writing workshop for writers of all genres.

Bring your best idea or writing project and dive deep into a joyful and moving exploration of yourself and your work.

Chris Wells, creator of the Writing Life workshops, guides you through an evocative series of conversations, deep and reflective questions, and assignments that take you on a passionate journey of self-discovery.

With dynamic writing prompts and creative exercises, his expertise helps you get at what you want to write and make decisions on how to move forward. You write as much as possible over the course of the week and leave with a ton of new writing and a greater sense of yourself as an artist.

Writers of all genres are welcome—bloggers, memoirists, playwrights, academics, historians, performers, novelists, travel writers, you name it. No previous writing experience is required.

Things to Bring

Faculty asks that you bring the following items with you to the course:

  • One idea to work on for the duration
  • Materials for writing (If you write on a laptop, bring it. Pen and paper? Bring them, etc.)
  • An object that is personally revealing (This is intentionally vague: some people bring food, or flowers, or a photo of their family, a memento—it’s up to you)
  • One fancy garment (a sparkly shawl, a top, a vest)
  • A version of someone else’s story that you love (A book, essay, movie, etc., up to you)
  • A photo of an artistic hero (Preferably a tangible image but if you can only find it in digital form, that’s cool)
