Chris Wells is one of the most inspirational creatives with whom I have ever had the profound delight to work. His expansive vision is generous, joyfully giddy, completely non-judgmental, and infectious. His greatest gift is in helping you value the worth of your own unique voice wherever the journey of "making the clay" may lead. His guidance and presence is such a blessing.

Chris is truly extraordinary to work with—as both a teacher and as a creative guide. He really taps into what your work can benefit from, regardless of form and content. Chris helps me remain inspired and connected as an artist and find my finish line with each project. Chris supports and lifts up artists, and he is my go-to both as a writing coach and a creative cheerleader. I cannot thank him enough for what he has given me through his classes and his insight. He's someone I'll be keeping in my creative corner on each project I work on!
Chris' weekly writers group has been a ballast over the past year, keeping me connected to my creative expression in a supportive, fun, intimate group of fellow writers. People in our group have stayed accountable for their work, showing up for themselves despite any number of constraints, heartbreaks, and distractions—thanks to the container Chris creates in our weekly sessions.
He makes room for us all to be our messy human selves and finds ways to help us continue creating week after week. His insights and observations are incisive and always spot on for every individual. He is a gem, and it's a joy to part of Chris' creative community.

Chris is a wonderful teacher—one of those rare ones who brings intuition, heart, wisdom, and professionalism to every class. In responding to your work, he is insightful and spontaneous, meeting you (and your work) exactly where you are. He is not precious and doesn't have a pretentious bone in his body. To this end, he's a fantastic resource to help you write and to work through and past whatever obstacle. He is a verb guy, all about encouraging and inspiring you to just. keep. writing. Above all, his love of writing and his dedication to it is infectious. He's a joy to spend time with.
Chris Wells inspired me to take what was a bunch of notes and stories in my head and magically transform them into what's turning out to be one of the best things I've ever written. As a writer, I work primarily as a playwright and lyricist, but this poetic memoir has been percolating for a long time—I just didn't know where/how to begin. With Chris's excellent guidance on structure and organization and insightful advice, I am confident that this is a project I will not only finish but be proud of. Even when I've been resistant to advice, he's reached out and initiated discussion and listened to my concerns, so that I fully understand—and ultimately integrate—his valuable feedback, for which I am forever grateful.

Chris' weekend workshop was exactly what I didn't know I was looking for! My writing used to be tucked away hidden in my laptop. With his prompts and thoughtful straight-to-the-point observation, I'm now able to find a path into my writing as well as develop and share it. This is been a game changer for me. Do yourself a favor and take a workshop with Chris.
I joined Chris Wells weekly writing group shortly after lockdown. Although I have been writing poetry for over 30 years and had been published in prestigious literary journals, my writing practice was spotty. The pressure of work and self-doubt made me feel like I was a fake. Chris has an extraordinary ability to create a space and community (even through Zoom!) where writers thrive and believe in themselves. Chris' attention to detail in critique pushes our work to new levels. I have written more in the last year than in the previous 20 years and now have a daily writing practice and revived my blog. I honestly can't recommend Chris enough. If writing is a seed in your heart, Chris Wells is the hothouse you need.
Chris Wells is a writer who knows how to teach writing, a rare combination of talents indeed. His insistence on being organized, developing a regular writing practice, being fearless in your writing, and discovering the power of rewriting are all keys to unlocking the writer in you. All done in a safe, nurturing, generous, and inspiring environment. Oh and his deep listening skills and insights are unparalleled.

Chris is a like a creativity magician—somehow coaxing the best work out of you with a light touch and incredible amounts of encouragement and love. Things I learned in his workshop have stayed with me for a long time and continue to influence my approach to writing and to life!

I only took a weekend workshop with Chris (five hours each day). It turned out to be the thing that broke my writer's block on a project, and I was able to get major work written; purposeful, useful work... It cracked me open. He confronts all the interior blocks writers have, and assume they alone possess. And by confronts, I mean slay—he slays those blocks, puts them back in their cages, and gets you out of yours so you can do the work you started to do in the first place. Gave me my joy back.
Chris will sweep you up into a flow of creativity you had no idea you had. If you don't know what you want to work on... You will find it with Chris. If you have something you are working on... It will progress at a speed you had not dreamt of before. He is always gentle, insightful, and encouraging. You will learn so much about writing and about yourself if you open the door to his class.
I highly recommend Chris and his workshops/coaching. I took a couple of his workshops already and can't wait to keep going. It was the first time I was able to open up a creative space for me to write. I never thought it was within me until he showed us how to write from a place of creative expression. Thanks to Chris, I am working on my book.
I arrived to the workshop without writing experience. Chris has an amazing way of getting to the heart of each writer's needs and the group atmosphere provided a supportive and safe environment to explore and take chances. By the end of the four days, I discovered my voice and left with confidence, vision and tools to help overcome roadblocks.
If I spent two years getting an MFA in writing, I don't believe I'd make as much progress or gain as much confidence as I did in the 16 hours we were together. You are a master teacher and a masterful individual whose respect for others, and delight in each person's voice, helped me to fill my pages with words worth reading."
